The Painting of a Chipping Sparrow```By MysticSilks

Then I used a photo of a Chipping Sparrow perched on a branch of cherry blossoms.
Most of the background had been blurred,so that all the eye could see was a pink and green mist, then the sparrow perched upon the cherry branch.
I added a pale sun in the upper right hand corner of the painting: I seldom see a sun in a painting.
A strange idea crossed my mind in that there are plenty of paintings with a full moon, and different phases of the moon.
So in a thousand years , if people are still about, they will know of the moon. But perhaps they will wonder why so few paintings with a sun? So, I painted in the pale sun.
Painting the body of the bird was not as much of a challenge as painting the details of the head. You see in one photo where the head has yet to be painted on the body of the bird: I studied the photo of the head for many days and went back for five days adding a contrast here and there;making sure the eye had the light of life in it.
After I was pretty much finished, and I use that phrase, because I have the tendency to go back again and again, adding a touch of color , changing an angle, adding another leaf, or flower. I attached a real bird feather to the lower right hand corner of the painting, then photographed the painting. The feather looked so in its place, that I actually painted a feather in that corner.
I'd say I am pretty satisfied.

This Post Is For The Birds~~~By MysticSilks

What makes it feel like the longest month? The seemingly long cold, snowy months of winter that precedes February.
It's the time of year , when the color of the snow left on the ground is the grayest and dirtiest: The time for " Over The River and Through The Woods" or " I'm Dreaming of A White Christmas" feeling is long gone.
It sounds like I am complaining; I can can feel me whining.
I wait longingly to hear the sounds of Blue birds, Robins, and the perky chittering of the Wren as she gathers twigs, stray pieces of yarn, and soft strands of animal fur to build her nest. The Wren is my favorite bird.
She is industrious, fastidious, and knows what she wants.
I had a wren house that housed the same wren and her yearly brood of chicks for many years.
One year a lonely chick-a-dee unfortunately came in early spring to claim the Wren's house. She built a nest and laid an egg. When she flew out of the bird-house, I did not see any mate standing guard till the female returned.
About a week later Mrs. Wren came to set up housekeeping. The chick-a-dee was out. The Wren popped in the birdhouse and began tossing nesting material out of the hole. Up she'd pop with a twig, some dried hay, and then, and then pieces of egg;she threw it all out. The little chick-a-dee returned , flew into the house. Soon she hopped out on the ledge with the most confused look on her face;she kept looking towards the hole. Can birds look sad? I swear this one did, or was I over sympathizing with the chick-a-dee?
Soon Mrs Wren did a dive bomb towards the chick-a -dee, and she flew off in dejected resignation. The Wren set to the business of building her nest, and chittering away for a mate. In a week or so she had a few interested suitors and finally there were Wren eggs in the nest. When she or her mate were away from the bird-house the other stayed behind. If anything threatening, such as our cat came near her house she, or the mate would chitter and dive bomb which would scare away any preditor. I didn't know the Wren could be such a little warrior.
She's got my respect.

A Silk Painting and A Poem ```Offered by MysticSilks

If you have been following my blog,
you'll note that recently I have been pairing my paintings along with poems by e.e.cummings.
This painting was inspired by a photo that my son took while he was stationed in Alaska. I was so impressed by the photo that I created both this silk painting and a water color painting.
The poem by ee cummings that fits best with this silk painting is:
when face called flowers float out of the ground```e.e.cummings
when faces called flowers float out of the ground
and breathing is wishing and wishing is having
-but keeping is downward and doubting and never
-it's april(yes,april;my darling)it's spring!
yes the pretty birds frolic as spry as can fly
yes the little fish gambol as glad as can be
(yes the mountains are dancing together)
when every leaf opens without any sound
and wishing is having and having is giving
-but keeping is doting and nothing and nonsense
-alive;we're alive,dear:it's(kiss me now)spring!
now the pretty birds hover so she and so he
now the little fish quiver so you and so i
(now the mountains are dancing, the mountains)
when more than was lost has been found has been found
and having is giving and giving is living
-but keeping is darkness and winter and cringing
-it's spring(all our night becomes day)o,it's spring!
all the pretty birds dive to the heart of the sky
all the little fish climb through the mind of the sea
(all the mountains are dancing;are dancing)
Ah,yes (all the mountains are dancing;are dancing)

poems.

touching you i say(it being Spring
and night)"let us go a very little beyond
the last road---there's something to be found"
and smiling you answer"everything
turns into something else, and slips away....
(these leaves are Thingish with moondrool
and i am so very little afraid")
i say
"along this particular road the moon if you'll
notice follows us like a big yellow dog. You
don't believe? look back.(Along the sand
behind us, a big yellow dog that's....now it's red
a big red dog that may be owned by who
knows)
only turn a little your. so. And
there's the moon , there is something faithful and mad"

A Wintery Poem by Robert Frost----MysticSilks
willowtreepottery on etsy.com, created a treasury using my " Snow Angels" painting. She was inspired to create a wintery treasury using this poem of Robert Frost:
by Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of the easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Selling Fine Art Online~~~~~~~MysticSilks

Selling fine art online is a challenge. And, I can understand why buyers are, for the most part, hesitant to purchase. The texture of the paint strokes in a painting are difficult for the artists to photograph;the camera simply can not pick up the color nuances found in a painting.
As an example, this photograph of my silk painting " Faeries in Our Midst" does not capture the soft blue patina on the fairy statue or the grooves in the stump she sits upon.
The subtle green colors of the leaves in the trees;nor the fact that a breeze is blowing through that tree.
Also, in viewing the second photo, can you see the faint images of people sitting between the stump and the bush of roses?
I have this painting displayed next to my bed. Each day I get to look at the beauty of this painting, and I see it in a way that a camera just can not capture.
Thank you for reading, and viewing.
