Ghost Stories Anyone? By MysticSilks

It's almost Halloween, and my favorite talk radio station, WNIR, Akron, Ohio, is inviting callers to call in with ghost stories or strange things that have to do with the afterlife in honor of Halloween.

Well, I could almost write a book about those kinds of happenings.

I remember when my mother, who lived in Michigan, was diagnosed with CA---and we were talking about life after death--I asked her to make a pact with me, that whoever should go first( I mean, I could walk out the door and get hit in the can too, you know) would contact or signal the other--just to let them know that life did go on in some form or another--;)

She asked, " What kind of signal ?" ,she asked.

" Well, I went on, " I think the spirit of a person is made up of electrical energy. So send me something in the sequence of 3--using electrical outlets."

" Why 3 ?" she inquired.

" Because the words I Love You is 3 words. " And if something should happen electrically 3 times , I'll know it's you."

Well, a year later she had surgery for the CA, except the doctors nicked her colon while they were operating. As a result, the e-coli escaped into her system and she died from sepsis. About 3 weeks later I am doing laundry in the basement.

The light is on above the stationary tub, and I'm bending over putting clothes from the washer into the dryer, when all of a sudden the light goes off then on--At first I didn't pay attention--I reached for another arm load of laundry, and the light goes off and on again---this time I stood still and waited--again the light turned off and on.

I waited. Nothing more--no more on and off with the bulb. I thought , well maybe the bulb was loose, so I reached up to tightened it--but it was as tight as could be.

I believe it was Mom , doing our signalling, as we promised to do, the year before.

The Economy--What's Going On?, by MysticSilks

I've had an online shop at etsy.com(MysticSilks) since 2007. I began selling my silk art there because I was no longer physically capable of going to the art shows, or to drive great distances, like into Murray Hill in Cleveland, Ohio, to drop my art off for consignment.; besides consignment can be costly to the seller.

So, I asked a silk group that I belonged to at the time, where would be a good place to sell online, and etsy seemed the best place.

Well, I guess silk scarves have not been as popular as, say jewelry. Jewelry sells like hot cakes on etsy, but now, with the economy in the tank, even many of the jewelry sellers are bemoaning low sales.

But, I say to myself, there must still be money out there. The high-rollers are still around, but do they come to etsy?

It appears places like etsy are supported mostly by what used to be the middle income family. That's the group of people who have been hurt the most by this current economy: It's hard to buy anything if you're out of a job, or just barely able to pay your bills.

I went back to my etsy shop and lowered the prices on all my silk scarves.

I truly feel bad for people who have lost jobs; this comes from my childhood and being able to personally relate to their situations.

So, I've posted some photos of my silk scarves, and art--do come and visit my shop: http://mysticsilks.etsy.com/

Time For Christmas , Again? By MysticSilks Silk Scarves

It's October 17th, 2009, and we have not experienced much of a nice Autumn.

You know those balmy days of 60's maybe 70's , with just a slight nip in the weather. No, it's more like November with huge gray clouds that appear as if they'd drop snow any second, and in fact as I write this there's a cold mix of snow and rain!!

Oh, I know Halloween , and Thanksgiving are a skip--hop and jump away. But I am already seeing some Christmas ads on TV.

So, I am getting a head start on getting the news out, that in my etsy shop I have a gorgeous selection of designer silk scarves, some wonderful original silk paintings, and a few silk pillows, plus some other art work.

I will add some photos just to catch your eye, and hope you'll make your way to my shop at : http://mysticsilks.etsy.com

Original Silk Paintings, by MysticSilks

It's a rather chilly day in NE Ohio. Seems too cold, 39 degrees, for this early in the fall season, but then as many have said, it was a cool summer season, too.

I haven't painted anymore paintings since early this summer. Why? you may ask. I haven't got the room for storing them;my closet is loaded.

Etsy , the online site where I have my art work displayed for sale, is still in the process of dealing with the tagging issues. As an example, if you have someone who has painted a cheese board, they put the tags, art, 'original painting',housewares, and so on. Well, if you go to etsy and search for 'original paintings' guess what will also show up along with a zillion other things---a cheese board!

I don't think serious art collectors will stay too long on etsy. In fact concerned fine art artists on etsy have created a thread , and also a petition. This is the forum thread:http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6105708

And this is the petition:

In the meanwhilke I am going to upload some of my 'original paintings'--and there's not one cheese board among them: http://mysticsilks.etsy.com

Newly Created Silk Scarves by MysticSilks

OK, here I am blogging again about my newest silk beauties, silk scarves.

Now here's what strange, I did a blog last week about 3 of my newest silk scarves, but , yup, it's disappeared. This has happened a lot to my blogs, and that's why I don't become too serious about blogging, because they tend to disappear.

It seems like I am spending so much time online tending to my blogs, my twitter, my facebook, myspace, and my series of online shops and all the SEO criteria, that I have little time or enegry left to create more.

But here are some that I created this summer, and finally got their photos, cripped , cropped, highlighted, sized their pixels, and uploaded etc.
I thank you!

"America, America God Shed His Grace on Thee..."

This mid morning in August of 2009, I heard the rumbling powerful roar of a Thunderbird jet fly over my home in little Warren, OH.; there's an air show at Vienna Air Base, which is about 12 miles away.

Something proud leaped up in my heart as I ran outside , eyes fastened on the sky as the jet sped over my house so low that it cast a shadow on the lawns. I began to clap my hands , and yelled" Way to go boys!" And I guess I felt so proud because of men and women like this who serve and have served in our Armed Forces: The men and woman that have fought so hard to keep this country, the United States of America, free.

And FREE is the keyword here:Free to speak our minds; free to say what we agree, or disagree with, regarding how our elected officials vote.

No one in this country, not even President Obama, should ever say that " we the people" should be ignored because we disagree with his policies i.e., Health care, Caps and Trades bill. Don't ever say that Mr. President!

"We The People.." have husbands, wives, fathers, grand fathers, and great grandfathers, uncles, sons, and brothers who have fought, and who have given their lives so that " we the people.." remain free, and to have our voices heard.

So I guess when I heard that Thunderbird jet roar overhead, I had to give words to the roar of the jet engine: Way to go boys!

Where Oh Where Did My Other Blog Go?

I discovered that I really know so very little about the process of setting up a blog. I had to delete one that I've had for over a year.
The reason it was deleted was because one day I felt quite brave and more knowledgeable than normal, and I decided to add some HTML to my blog.
Well, as a result it doubled every blog entry I had previously written.

The blog actually looked as if the viewer was seeing double!
I felt embarrassed, and as a result, I did not post anything to that blog for many months. I asked for some assist from people who were more literate with blog knowledge, but no one seemed to be able to help me correct the error that was made.

OK, but I had another blog and found out that since I deleted the other blog I for awhile ,could not find the one I am currently writing in.

Well, we'll see if this one holds.

If you get a chance , drop my my etsy store:http://mysticsilks.etsy.com/

So, finally on Friday the 19th of June 2009, I just deleted the double vision blog.

African Serengeti Sunset

Recently I had been working , or should I say 'creating' two new silk hangings.

Now, the differences between a 'silk hanging' and a silk painting, are the time involvement, and cost." African Serengeti" took approximately a month, working once a day for about an hour, to finish the silk hanging.
Then it took another 21/2 hours to steam, to set the dyes. Then another 24 hours to allow the steamed silk to dry ,only to wet it again by washing it in a special soap, rinsing in a conditioned water rinse. Then, ironing it,then temporarily pinning it to a foam core board to take photo shots. Another two-three hours to photo edit it, then uploading it to the http://mysticsilks.etsy.com/ website to
write up a description, a price, add the tags, then click finish.
OK, at this point it is a silk hanging, which the buyer may purchase at the cost of $75.00, plus S&H. The buyer can then mount it on a dowel , or have it framed on their own.

If they choose to have me mount the silk on foam core, and to have it framed, add about another $100.00. , plus the S&H will be more.

So, here is " African Serengeti Sunset"

An Unusual Silk Painting "Bluebird Garden"

When I created this painting, or really any painting,I expect to see what I have added to the silk, not something that just shows up mysteriously.

That happened with this pretty painting of a fairy like sculpture holding a bowl, upon which a bluebird decided to rest for awhile.

If you look between that statue, and the clustered rose bush to the right, there is a faint image of a man and a woman.

Now, I didn't paint those images: They just showed up to enjoy the garden.
